A few recent initiatives* encouraging the collective voice of travel:
*common link = I’m taking part in all
- I have just put together a Storify (collation of info) from our last Sensitive Travel Chat (Travel Places and Ideas) which I (@SensitiveTravel) held via Twitter. When unwell with chronic illness it can help to connect and share ideas on places visited or dreamt about visiting, locally, nationally or internationally. Hope you gain inspiration from all we talked about.
- It’s towards the end of Accessible Travel Week (#AccessibleTravelWeek hashtag on Twitter which Sensitive Travel joined in with). A new initiative to raise awareness for Accessible Travel launched by Martyn Sibley of Disability Horizons. Martyn has compiled some helpful videos in relation to planning, flying and accommodation. Many points covered are applicable to variable health condition situations.
- Recent news of Lonely Planet’s Google + community for Accessible Travel continuing is excellent news. It is run by Martin Heng who also compiled by Lonely Planet’s Accessible Travel Online Resources (mentioned earlier as I am proud that Sensitive Travel is included). Both LP initiatives bring together accessible travel organisations, bloggers and individuals.
- Finally, this weekend Traverse 16, organised by Traverse Events and Visit Wales, is coming to my hometown of Cardiff. Which is extremely fortunate as with ME / CFS / Fibromyalgia having a UK wide ‘Travel Bloggers Conference’ on my doorstep is invaluable. The Bimblers let me know of the event a few months ago and I’m looking forward to participating as I can.
